Imphal, August 10 2024:
A Kuki man attending a cultural event of Kukis at New Delhi by wearing the traditional dress of Kom tribe was to mislead the people, said Kom Union Manipur.
Addressing the media at New Checkon today, Boyesh Kom, advisor cum spokesperson of the union, continued that clips of the Kuki man pretending to be a Kom at the cultural event of Kuki-Zo people held at New Delhi yesterday have gone viral on social media.
The intention was to mislead the people and give a wrong impression about the identity of Kom people, he said referring to the Kuki man donning Kom's traditional dress at the event which was held under the theme "Demand for Kuki-Zo's Separate Administration" .
Condemning the alleged attempt to deceive the people, he said that they have identified the person who wore their traditional dress as Mangza Kuki alias Mangza Khongsai Kuki.
Saying that Koms are peace loving people and have been maintaining neutrality amid the unrest, Boyesh appealed to all concerned to not paint them (Kom people) and their identity in a wrong light again.
He further said that no person from the Kom tribe attended the cultural event of Kuki-Zo people and the event had nothing to do with them.
"Kom is a small tribe so let us preserve our identity," he said.
Boyesh also said that they tried to lodge an FIR with the cyber crime of Imphal police station yesterday itself but could not do so due to some problems.
