CCpur, February 10 2020:
A 46-year-old man identified as Jangpao Baite of Lungngil village was killed in a hit-and-run case last night at about 7 in between Sugnu bridge and T Lailoiphai village.
With the culprit in the case still remaining a mystery several CSOs including KSO Saingakot, KSO Churachandpur, Kuki Women Union, Makhao Area Chief Association, and Makhao Area Youth Welfare Organisation have called on the law enforcing agencies to identify and book the culprit/s within 36 hours.
Failure to fulfil their appeal may compel them to launch a series of joint agitation, said the organisations in separate statements today.
Jangpao Baite, 46 son of Semkhoson was on his way home from Sugnu by foot when he was hit by a vehicle said the statements issued by the CSOs.
The vehicle and the driver fled the spot, leaving behind the lifeless body of Jangpao Baite and they are still absconding, it added.
Condemning the incident, KSO Churachandpur along with several of the CSOs said the law enforcement agencies should book the culprit/s as soon as possible.
The KSO appeal comes a day after the KSO Sangaikot made a mid-night clarion call for the perpetrators to surrender if at all a little bit of humanity is left in them so that the victim and the victim's family get the justice they deserve.
As their appeal yielded no result as of today, they are now calling on the Government to take the culprits to task.
The body of Jangpao Baite is now lying unclaimed at the district hospital mortuary, Churachandpur.
KSO Sangaikot Block claimed that last night's incident was the second instance of hit-and-run case within their block and issued a public appeal to ensure such incidents are not repeated in future.
Meanwhile, the lifeless body of a man identified as Victor Jangkhotinthang Doungel son of H Doungel of Saihenjang village, Churachandpur was found beneath a bridge at about 7 am today.
Sources hinted that he may have accidentally fallen on the bridge though the exact cause will be known as and when a detailed report of the post-mortem conducted today is made known.
His body was laid to rest later in
the day.
