Bandh affects normal life across districts

The Statewide bandh called by the JAC against the mysterious death of Ningthoujam Babysana Chanu affected normalcy in Jiribam and Kakching districts today.
AMSU, MSF, DESAM and KSA along with other student organisation led the bandh in Jiribam district while protesters came out to block the passage way at Jiri river bridge and made all commuters to turn back.
Meanwhile, private and Government schools, offices, business establishments, petrol stations, shops in the district remained shut during the bandh.

Jiribam police have been strolling at different places in the district to avoid any unwanted incidents, reports our correspondent.
KAKCHING: In Kakching district, except for a few private vehicles, no passenger vehicles were seen playing along the roads of Kakching district today.
Schools and Government offices wore a deserted look and popular markets in the district namely Kakching Lamkhai, Pallel, Wabagai Lamkhai, Kakching Khunou, Waikhong, Sugnu among others remained shut, reports our correspondent.
Meanwhile, police patrolled around different places of the district.
A joint sit-in protest was staged by AMSU Kakching district committee, Wabagai Awang Leikai Youth Development Association and Wabagai Awang Leikai Meira Paibis at Wabagai Awang Leikai community hall and the protesters later gathered to raise slogans along Imphal-Sugnu road.
AMSU Kakching district committee has warned to launch more stringent agitation if the common demands of the people are not met at the earliest.
In a separate protest, faculty and students of Brighter Career Academy staged a sit in protest in front of their school and women vendors of Kakching Khunou Keithel, showing support to the bandh, halted their service and took out a torch rally later in the day.
Ching Tam Apunba Nupi Lup Pallel also extended its solidarity to the bandh imposed today.
Meanwhile, a team of Hiyanglam police extinguished a burning tyre, which was set ablaze by protesters along Wabagai-Mayang Imphal road near Wabagi Keithel Macha.
THOUBAL: In support of the bandh called in the suspicious death of Babysana across the State, Joint Committee On People's Welfare Yairipok (JCPWY), an apex body 10 Clubs of the region in association with women vendors of Yairipok Bazar and meira paibees of Laimanai, Top, Bishnunaha, Bamon Leikai blocked the road since early morning and staged sit-in protest demanding prompt delivery of justice in the mysterious death of Babysana.
Placards which read as "Justice for Babysana", "Govt cannot suppress the truth" were used in the protest.
During the bandh, vehicles stayed off the road, shops were closed and markets wore a deserted look.
BISHNUPUR: The Statewide bandh called by JAC in the mysterious death of Babysana also crippled normal life in Bishnupur District.
Important markets in Bishnupur district including Kumbi Keithel, Moirang Keithel, Ningthoukhong Keithel, Kwkata Keithel, Bishnupur Keithel, Oinam Keithel and Nambol Keithel wore a deserted look during the bandh while shops, schools, bank, post office were closed and many Govt offices witnessed minimum attendance.
Passenger vehicles also stayed off the road.
District police also beefed up security measures at different strategic points to thwart any unwanted incidents.
On the other hand, in support of the general strike, Apunba Mayai Kaba Chinjak Thingba Lup Keinou in association with Women Welfare Organization Kangleipak staged sit-in protest at Imoinu Keithel, Keinou Thongkhong demanding the arrest of the persons involved in the suspicious death of Babysana and the immediate release of JAC Co-convenor and Club members pulled up by the Manipur Police.
