Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) sleuths arrested three persons and recovered a huge amount of Ephedrine tablets worth around Rs.120.80 crore in the international market, the Superintendent of NCB, Imphal said Thursday.
NCB sleuths effected the seizure of a consignment of eight cartons containing 12,15,800 tablets of Ephedrine HCL (15 mg) on June 5 from the office of a courier company, Blazeflash Courier Limited, Khoyathong opposite to ABC, the Superintendent said in a statement.
The Superintendent said that three persons connected with the consignment which was meant for onward transportation to Myanmar have been arrested in a follow up action.
Even though, the identities of the three arrested persons were not revealed, the statement of Superintendent said that one of them was linked to a firm named MNG Drugs and Biopharma, Imphal which proved to be non-existent.
His partner had been using the licence without his knowledge for purchase and sale of Ephedrine tablets.
They had made a huge profit from the illegal trade.
More quantities of the tablets have also been seized in other parts of the country.
The manufacturer of the tablets has also been identified and further investigations are in progress.
One Maruti van and one two-wheeler used by the traffickers were also seized under reasonable belief that they were involved in violations under NDPS Act 1985, the Superintendent said.
He sought the co-operation of the youth and people of Manipur to provide information of drug traffickers who could ruin the whole society.
It is pertinent to mention that Delhi Police arrested two persons and recovered 1,000 kg of the psychotropic substance, ephedrine, worth Rs.20 crore on Tuesday, June 7 in a follow up action to the information that a syndicate involved in trafficking of such substances from Manipur into Myanmar and China was active in the city.
Delhi Police had unearthed the nexus in March-April this year when it arrested two suspects, Yahiphaba and Napoleon from Manipur and seized 200 kg of ephedrine from them.
