Rotary Club of Imphal extends aid

Rotary Club of Imphal extended financial assistance to RK Tamphasana (37) of Sagolband Tera Keithel Sapam Leirak who has been suffering from various ailments.
RK Tamphasana is a 'mycetoma' (chronic inflammation of the tissues caused by infection with a fungus or with certain bacteria) patient who has been suffering since 2006 after giving birth to her third child.
After coming across about her plights through media reports on May 6, a team of dedicated doctors under the leadership of Director of JNIMS Dr L Deben took her to JNIMS for providing free treatment.
President of Rotary Club of Imphal, Ng Tejkumar applauding the works of Dr L Deben stated that such humanitarian work is exemplary.
The Rotary Club of Imphal donated Rs 20,000 for her treatment.
Tejkumar further stated that it is very unfortunate that such incident has happened and no help comes from any quarters.
It is also unfortunate that her husband has neglected her.
The inhuman acts of her husband should not go unpunished and legal steps should be taken up after consultation with members of Manipur State Legal Service Authority.
Other help will be provided to her, Tejkumar added.
While Dr L Deben expressed that many such cases may be there in other parts of the State.
JNIMS will work to provide free medical care to patients belonging to Below the Poverty Line (BPL) and a survey will be launched shortly to locate such cases.
He added that a report has been received that after a delivery case a woman has failed to recover after almost a year now at Tamenglong.
A dedicated team of doctors, surgeon and nurses will be dispatched on May 12 to retrieve the patient from Tamenglong and provide free medical care at JNIMS hospital, he added.
At the same time, District Legal Services Authority, Imphal East today collected report about the woman who is undergoing treatment of mycetoma infection at JNIMS for extending free legal aid.
The woman is suffering from mycetoma and allegedly neglected by her husband.
The woman from Sagolband Tera Keithel Sapam Leirak got mycetoma infection due to alleged medical negligence after giving birth to a third child in 2006.Since then, her husband reportedly avoided her.
She along with her children were living at her parental home.
A team led by Member Secretary of DLSA, Imphal East Aribam Noutuneshowri comprising legal officers of CJM Imphal East, Imphal East district SP Angam Kamei and JNIMS Director Dr L Deven met the victim today at the hospital.
A Noutuneshowri said that the woman is not yet legally divorced.
Necessary measures will be taken up by the DLSA for the rehabilitation of the victim and her children, she said.
