DHS Senapati observes 37th National Eye Donation Fortnight

District Health Society, Senapati today observed the 37th National Eye Donation Fortnight 2022 at District Hospital Senapati under the theme, "Let your eyes live on" .
The event conducted in association with National Program for Control of Blindness and Visual impairment, Senapati District, National Health Mission was attended by Dr Pfokreho Pfoze, CMO/Director, DHS Senapati and Dr M Sokha, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Senapati as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Elizabeth RK, DPM, NHM Senapati stated that the day was observed to spread awareness on the importance of eyes and how a person should take care of them.

Dr Y Jennifer Nane, DNO, NPCB & VI Senapati mentioned that the 15-day observation was aimed at generating awareness about the importance of donating eyes.
"In India, 2.5 lakh people become cornea blind every year but only 50,000 cornea donations were available in the country", she added.
She continued that anyone willing can take a pledge to donate their eyes after death to give sight to people living with cornea blindness.
Dr Rita Chanu, Ophthalmologist, District Hospital Senapati stated that donating eyes does not mean donating the whole eye ball after death but only the cornea layer.
"People can suffer from cornea blindness after injury in the cornea and proper care is not taken", said Dr M Sokha.
Dr Pfokreho Pfoze elaborated on the theme, "Let your eyes live on" and urged all to donate their eyes to help others see.
"People of the age group 1-70 years are eligible to donate their eyes", he asserted.
