Teachers stage sit-in protest

Imphal, February 08 2020: All Manipur Elementary School Tea- chers Association (AMESTA), All Manipur Secondary School Teachers Association (AMSSTA) and All Manipur Government Lecturers Welfare Association (AMGLWA), under the aegis of Council Of Teachers' Association (COTA), staged a sit-in protest in front of ZEO Zone II office at Porompat today, demanding immediate implementation of 7th Pay and threatening to boycott the coming HSLC and HSE examinations to be conducted by BOSEM and COHSEM respectively.

Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the protest, an active member of COTA, MS Rahman, said that COTA will continue such sit-in protests until and unless the State Government fulfil its demands.

COTA might even launch a fast unto death protest, he cautioned, adding that the body had already served a notice to the Government threatening to boycott the board exams, back in December last year.

He continued that COTA is planning a similar sit-in protest in front of the ZEO offices at Thoubal and Churachandpur on February 10 .

The teachers will boycott board exams, they will not take part in any exam duty, he warned, urging the Chief Minister, the Education Minister and the authority concerned to consider the demands of the body in the interest of the students as well.
