Convention on school education held at Saikul

A 'one-day Convention on school Education was held today at Model English Higher Secondary School, Saikul with over 100 delegations drawn from village authorities, youth clubs and concerned school headmasters/headmistress within the jurisdiction of KSO Saikul Block.
The convention was graced by Seikholal Haokip, Executive Member, Sadar Hills ADC; Thangjakam Misao, Zilthang Touthang, Lunkhohen Haokip and Paotinlun Chongloi.
The Convention was aimed at discussing local issues hampering the normal and smooth functioning of Govt schools within Saikul Block and also finding possible solutions so as to make schools effectively functional in line with the Right to Education Act incorporated in the Constitution of India.
L Paominthang, CDC East Khasi Hills Meghalaya World Vision India was the resource person.
The Convention adopted a Joint Resolution to exert collective responsibility for effective functioning of schools from the academic session 2014 onwards.
Frequent Transfer and postings of teaching staff in the middle of academic session with no replacements has been identified as one major drawbacks for effective functioning of schools.
The Convention entrusted upon the KSO Saikul to monitor and look into the irregularities in Mid-day Meal schemes, and facilities availed in the form of text books and uniforms since concern authorities from the Education Dept being absent was not answerable in the convention.
