Bpr/Ccp/Kpi/Spi/Thb, July 07 2022: The week-long festival of tree plantation also known as "Van Mahotsav" continues to be observed in different parts of the State.

BISHNUPUR
Moirang AC MLA Thongam Shanti today led a tree plantation drive at Yaosurakpa Khoudemching (Moirang Mamang Chingjao) to celebrate the 73rd Van Mahotsav.

Earlier, Th Shanti also led a rally from his office in Moirang Philem Leikai to Moirang Mamang Chingjao.

The rally was participated by Moirang Police, Fire Service, Forest Department, Moirang Municipal Council, CSOs, Clubs and people of the area.

Speaking on the occasion, Th Shanti stated that the tree saplings were planted with the assistance of CSOs, clubs and people of Moirang to help preserve the environment and support Chief Minister N Biren Singh's vision of "Green Manipur".

Stressing on the need to preserve the environment, the MLA assured to conduct similar events in other parts of the constituency.

Th Shanti further appealed to the public to support the "War on Drugs" and other initiatives of the CM to bring forth a better and prosperous Manipur.

CHURACHANDPUR
In line with the observance of Van Mahotsav, enthusiastic villagers of Bungmual, Churachandpur planted tree saplings along National Highway-102 yesterday.

The tree plantation drive was organized by Bungmual Village Authority with the assistance of the District Administration and Forest Department.

Khaikhopau Ngaihte, Additional DC/Churachandpur; Esther Laltankim Serto, IFS, DFO/Churachandpur Division, Village Authority members, Youth club members and officials from Forest Department attended the event.

KANGPOKPI
People of Lhungtin Sub Division, Kangpokpi District planted more than 3,000 saplings today to celebrated the 73rd Van Mahotsav in Lhungtin area.

Saikul AC MLA, Kimneo Haokip Hangshing and ex-MDC of ADC Sadar Hills, Thongjalun Mate took part in the tree plantation drive along with village chiefs, civil bodies of Saikul, SDO Saikul, and officials of District Forest Department led by the DFO.

Tree saplings were also provided to village chiefs of the area.

SENAPATI
To commemorate Van Mahotsav, Loyola School, Liyai in collaboration with Senapati Forest Division planted tree saplings in and around the school campus.

It was participated by Thaikho Peter, ex-ADC member, Liyai DCC; D John Sha, MFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Senapati Forest Division; Benjamin, Forest Ranger, Liyai Range; and principal of the school, Fr Joram among others.

About 200 tree saplings were planted on the day under the theme, "One student, one tree" .

A similar tree plantation drive was also reportedly held at Makhel village.

Moreover, the Minor Irrigation Department and Agriculture Department also planted tree saplings in and around their respective Department campus in Thoubal district yesterday to commemorate "Van Mahotsav" .
