Role of Meitei Pangal community underlined

Imphal, March 07 2018: Noting thateducation is the backbone for social and economical reformation in a society, Manipur State Minorities Commission (MSMC) Chairperson Dr Alhaj Syed Burhanuddin urged Meitei Pangal community to strive together to bring inclusive development in the State by taking the benefits of welfare schemes and projects meant for minority communities.

He was speaking as the chief guest at an awareness programme organised by Network For Social Advancement (NFSA) on the theme "Schemes for the Welfare of Minorities in Manipur" held today at Kshetrigao Community Hall, ABA Ground, Imphal East district.

Dr Burhanuddin exhorted the Meitei Pangal community to promote women empowerment amongst the population by providing education to them.

The role of women in bringing development in a society is of paramount importance, he added.

Main taining that both the Government of India and Government of Manipur are laying special emphasis oil uplifting women and backward communities in the State, he said that educating women is must for bringing development in a society as they play a pivotal role in bringing up their children and guiding them towards becoming a successful person in future.

He also highlighted various schemes and projects being implemented in the State under the aegis of Ministry of Minorities Affairs.

The Ministry was incepted on January 29, 2006 with the objective to fostering development for the minorities and marginalised communities of the country, he said.

The Ministry of Minorities Affairs works with a multi-pronged strategies for the development of minority communities in the country in terms of educational and economic empowerment, infrastructural development and to render help in a full fledged manner to the special needs of the minorities.

There are various schemes and projects being taken up in the State, including establishment of infrastructures related with education, healthcare and women empowerment, he continued.

Burhabuddin contended that Meitei Pangals are not deformative though they belong to minority community.

He opined that the populace of the community would be able to achieve whatever they wish if they work hard with a strong will and confidence.

Inspector of Police, SIT Md Riyajuddin who was present at the programme as one of the guests of honour stressed on the need for putting in collective efforts to identify drug peddlers in the areas dominated by Meitei Pangals in order to fight the drug menace in the State and prevent youth from falling prey to drug addiction.
