Itanagar, March 07 2012:
A prominent students' body in Arunachal Pradesh has given a month-long deadline to North East Electrical Power Corporation (NEEPCO) to give employment to "affected" people in various hydro-power projects being executed by it in the state.
The All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU) demanded that job reservation should be made in Pare and Ranganadi hydro-electric projects for locals besides regularisation of those serving on contract basis as per the agreement, failing which, it threatened to launch a "democratic stir" .
A team of ANSU led by its president Sikka Gapak met NEEPCO Director (Personnel) I P Boruah at Doimukh yesterday and submitted a one-point memorandum apprising him of all the problems being faced by the people of the affected areas.
The union questioned as to why the NEEPCO authorities had "failed" to recruit the affected youths of Pare Hydro electric project and regularise those serving in Ranganadi hydro-electric project on contract basis.
