CJM IW summons security personnel in connection to alleged fake encounter case

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West has taken cognizance against 4 State Police personnel and a Captain of 23 Assam Rifles in connection with alleged fake encounter of Chongtham Umakanta on the morning of May 5, 2009 .
The Court also issued summons to 4 chargesheeted State Police personnel to appear before the Court on February 21 and directed CBI to submit additional chargesheet against Kaushalendra, who was the Captain of 23 Assam Rifles then.
The four Police personnel named in the chargesheet are then Jemandar Hollal Haokip, s/o (late) Tongkholun of Moreh ward number 7; then rifleman Saillou Sumlianthang Aimol, s/o (late) Munthusiak of Aimol Satu village; then rifleman Sawaijam Naba, s/o (late) Kesori of Kakching Wari Thongam Leikai and then rifleman Manthilal Vaiphei, s/o Ngamjathong Vaiphei of Kamuching.
The then Captain of 23 Assam Rifles, Kaushalendra, s/o Banwari is a native of Chiranjeev Vihar Ghaziabad.
Following a writ petition filed by Extra Judicial Execution Victim Family Association of Manipur and Human Rights at the Supreme Court on July 14, 2017, the SC had directed the Director of CBI to set up an SIT to investigate the incident.
The CBI submitted the chargesheet today maintaining that the facts and evidence clearly established that the alleged security personnel had concocted a false story regarding the incident.
