Imphal, November 06 2012:
While bidding farewell to retired teaching and non-teaching staff under Deputy Inspector of School, Saitu-Gamphajol Block, a function held today at Saitu-Gamphajol community hall accorded warm reception to dedicated teachers under the Block.
As chief guest of the event, IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip presented blankets and bouquets to 13 number of retiring headmasters, teachers and non-teaching staff members of the Block.
The function also welcomed 13 COTA members who were released from jail for their involvement in the agitation in pursuit of implementing recommendation of the 6th Pay Commission.
Ngamthang presented blankets, bouquets and Rs 3000 each to the 13 COTA members.
Expressing that those serving in the noble profession of teaching deserved to be respected and honoured for their dedicated service, the Minister reminded all concerned that only the well-equipped educational institutions do not necessarily produce the best students.
Citing a number of high ranking officials currently serving or had served in various departments who have had education in hill area schools/colleges to substantiate his assertion, Ngamthang opined that individual teachers and students can excel through dedication and efforts.
Even though education-related infrastructure is a necessity in modern-day education, it needs to be remembered that dedicated service by the teachers is an important element in producing quality students, he said.
Asking the teacher community to abandon the concept of drawing salaries from home by putting up their replacements at their designated place of posting, the Minister stressed on the need for the teachers to justify their association with one of the noblest professions.
Among others, Saitu-Gamphajol DI of Schools Seikholet Singsit, Amesta general secretary and COTA convenor Shantakumar Singh, Sadar Hills Teachers' Association secretary Hemkhojang Khongsai and kangpokpi Zone Teachers' Association secretary Dhruba Kumar also attended the programme organised by Teachers' Association, Saitu Gamphajol Block.
