Imphal, June 06 2011:
Smile Train Shija Cleft Project is set to provide benefits to the cleft patients of Myanmar as the project's 'Mission Myanmar' will kick start from June 12 .
In a press conference held in this regard, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI) Managing Director Dr Kh Palin said, a free medical camp will be organised in association with Assam Rifles at Moreh on June 9 in this connection.
Cleft patients, especially from Myanmar, who need surgery would be detected in this camp, he said and added that operation would be later conducted at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, Langol.
Dr Palin said, the project will give special attention to the patients from Myanmar in view of lack of medical facilities in the neighbouring country, India's Look East policy and promotion of medical tourism.
He also appealed to all concerned to ensure free movement for all medical related activities in the State.
So far, the project has conducted successful surgery to around 2000 patients, out of which 200 patients were each from Nagaland and Assam, he said adding that even patients from Myanmar and Bihar had already been benefited earlier.
Dr Palin also said, there may be around 1000 cleft patients in Manipur who need surgery.
He also urged these patients to come forward for free surgery which the project has been providing.
