KVK golden jubilee, World Soil Day observed

Under the guidance of ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Manipur head Dr Ramgopal Laha, ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Churachan dpur launched "Krishi Swarna Samriddhi Week" as a part of the celebration of KVK golden jubilee along with the observance of "World Soil Day" at the Kwakta Sericulture relief camp in Bishnupur district on Thursday.
A release issued by ICAR/KVK, Churachandpur informed that the programme was attended by CTOs (Soil Sc.) & head in-charge Dr L Somendro Singh, (Home Sc.) Dr S Roma Devi, (Fisheries) Dr N Soranganba, ACTO (Agro-forestry) Bs Hmannihring Anal and (Horticulture) Ph Chandramani.About 72 farmers attended the programme during which chicks, feeds, seeds for Rabi crops and home science value materials, among other items, were distributed.
The event highlighted KVK's contributions to rural prosperity, fostering learning and collaboration among the farming communities.
Similarly, the observance of World Soil Day emphasised the vital role of healthy soil in sustaining life, promoting sustainable agriculture, and combating climate change, the release added.
Meanwhile, KVK, Ukhrul under the Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Zone VII and its host ICAR Manipur Centre observed World Soil Day at Langdang village in Ukhrul district, as part of the "Krishak Swarna Samriddhi Week and Technology Week" campaign.
In a release, KVK, Ukhrul informed that the programme was attended by Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Ukhrul soil conservation officer Thuimaya Kashung and Langdang village headman AS Wungmaso.
Speaking at the event, ICAR-KVK, Ukhrul SMS Dr PA Ramsem emphasised the importance of soil health and the utility of soil health cards and presented a demonstration of soil sampling techniques for testing, as KVK-Ukhrul senior scientist cum head Dr Soibam Khogen Singh elaborated on the role of KVK in augmenting technology gaps towards soil conservation and sustainable farming practice.
Rabi crop seeds, including garden peas, cabbage, and coriander were distributed to the farmers along with soil health cards.
