Imphal, November 05 2016:
The Khongjom Battle Memorial Celebration Committee Manipur has accused the Chief Minister of withholding files and documents related to the exact date of the famous Khongjom Battle.
A press release issued by Khongjom Battle Memorial Celebration Committee, Manipur secretary Chingtam Luwang accused Chief Minister O Ibobi of deliberately withholding files which were sent by the Governor's Secretariat sometime in the year 2012, containing documents with information about the exact date and time of the Khongjom Battle.
According to him, the files and documents were meant to help ascertain the exact date of the Battle of Khongjom with due approval of the State Government.
It was highly unethical for a Chief Minister to conceal such information.
Chingtam Luwang pointed out that a souvenir published and presented by the Government of Manipur to the then President of India, VV Giri at the inaugural function of the Khongjom Battle memorial site at Kheba Ching in1972 clearly stated that the Battle of Khongjom was fought on April 25, 1891 .
However, some people with vested interests changed the date of Khongjom Battle to April 23 since 1982 .
According to him, manipulating the date of such a historically important event would not be good for the future generations.
Questioning the motive of the Chief Minister for withholding this information, he said that the committee had already highlighted the matter to the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, during his visit to Imphal through a memorandum.
He further demanded that the files should be released at the earliest so that the concerned departments can take up necessary remedial measures.
