One five year old girl has been allegedly raped by her uncle (father's elder brother).
The accused identified as RK Achouba alias Tikendrajit (40) s/o late RK Hirasana has been apprehen-ded and remanded to judicial custody.
After registering a case at Imphal police station, due investigation has been launched under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act 2012 .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the victim's mother said that there was a marriage ceremony in their neighbour- hood on June 6 evening.
"That evening I saw my daughter called in by my brother-in-law to his room.
She did not come out for considerable length of time", said the mother, Thinking that the child might have gone to the marriage venue, they went there but the girl was not found there.
It was at this juncture, the girl ran out quite frightened.
On being enquired what was the matter, she did not give any reply.
As there were many auspicious precedents, the mother took off the girl's clothes and she found the girl's private part swollen and it was stained with a white substance, probably semen.
On being enquired again, the girl said that it was done by her uncle.
Although the mother was quite disturbed, she kept quiet until the marriage ceremony was over.
As soon as the girl's grandmother came home from the marriage ceremony, the mother tried to inform what happened to the girl.
At this moment, Tikendrajit was standing at the doorstep.
On seeing Tikendrajit at the doorstep, the girl became terrified and speechless.
Then the mother told her grandmother that the girl had been sexually assaulted by Tiken-drajit and also to confirm it by looking at the girl's body.
At this, Tikendrajit rushed in and hit the girl's mother with an iron rod of the charge of talking falsehood.
Then the mother ran out and shouted for help.
There too, she was shoved by the accused and she stuck the ground with her forehead.
In the next moment, neighbours came out and enquired what the matter was.
Tikendrajit disappeared into his room and locked it from inside.
After the crowd forced Tikendrajit to open the door, he was handed over to Imphal police station same night.
The victim's mother said that she has been leading a very hard life after her husband left her for another woman just three years after their marriage.
To earn her livelihood and meet educational expenses of her daughter, she did all kinds of odd jobs, sometimes as domestic helper and sometimes as construction labourer.
Even though the mother felt a strong suspicion about sexual on her daughter by Tikendrajit around three months, she could not open her mouth.
The mother said that she was beaten every now and then by the accused.
Although the matter was informed to the mother-in-law, she always took her son's side.
Even though the mother-daughter duo are fearful of living together with Tikendrajit, they are helpless as the mother's parents have not household plot of their own and are living in rented house.
The mother appealed to the authority concerned to award befitting punishment to the accused without letting him out
on bail.
One Meira Paibi leader of the locality too urged the authority not to let Tikendrajit out on bail.
She also appealed to all members of the All Manipur Bar Association and the Manipur High Court Bar Association not to take the role of Tikendrajit's counsel.
