Imphal, July 04 2016:
Manipur Khadi and Village Industries Board has expressed dissatisfaction to the State Government for not discussing the issue of clearing 6th Pay Commission recommendations for its employees and filling up of the vacant posts at the State Cabinet meeting.
Manipur Khadi and Village Industries Board Employees' Association general secretary O Ramkumar said that under the guidelines laid down by the Central Government, the Board which is functioning under State Commerce and Industries Department must be given equal treatment with other State Government Departments.
Alleging that Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam has been ignoring the grievances of the Board staff, Ramkumar questioned whether the Minister has a hidden agenda of disbanding the Board.
He said that employees of other State Government agencies like Loktak Development Authority, Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited and Manipur Pollution Control Board are getting the benefits of 6th Pay Commission.
Manipur Khadi and Village Industries Board was established with the State Assembly passing a Bill in 1966, he said and added that the Board has its own Acts and rules as a statutory body.
However, it is unfortunate that due to the negligence of the State Government and the authority concerned the Board is at the stage of extinction, Ramkumar said.
The Government has failed to fill up the vacant posts due to which the Board now has only 25 employees although it must have 75 staff, he said.
Ramkumar said that employees of other State Government Departments have been enjoying the benefits of the 6th Pay Commission since January 1, 2006.After the Board staff staged a sit-in-protest, the Chief Minister assured them to discuss the matter in the State Cabinet on May 4 last.
However, the same has not been materialised till date, he lamented.
