Imphal, September 03 2014:
The Sessions Court Bishnupur today sentenced life imprisonment to K Ibomcha (53) s/o (L) Gambhir of Napat Awang Leikai in the brutal murder case of Moirangthem Mohan of Napat Mayai Leikai.
It may be mentioned that Ibomcha was convicted in the last hearing of the case held on August 30 last.
During today's sentence hearing, the prosecution prayed for awarding capital punishment to the convict as the case could be categorised as one of the rarest of rare murder cases.
The prosecution put forward his argument that the accused cut off the head of the victim after assaulting him with a machete many times.
On the other hand, the defence counsel prayed the Court to award minimum sentence as the convict (now 53-year-old) was 51-year-old when he committed the crime and there was no criminal record against him before the incident.
After hearing both the sides, the Court sentenced rigorous life term with a fine of Rs 10,000 to Ibomcha.
The Court pronounced that the remuneration earned by the convict in the jail must be deposited to the Court every year till the realization of the fine amount.
It may be mentioned that Mohan's body with severed head was recovered from a paddy field of Napat Mayai Leikai, 18 km to the south of Kumbi Police Station on April 27, 2012 .
Later, Ibomcha surrendered at Wangoi Police Station.
