Imphal, August 02 2024:
Reacting to a representation submitted by one Paominlen Haokip of the Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas Manipur (Kuki Hills) to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) on January 27, 2024, the Federation of Haomee (FoH) sent a memorandum to the commission on July 31, 2024 .
The memorandum pointed out that Kuki immigration and settlement in Manipur started in the period 1830-40s.Categorically stating that Kukis are not aboriginal/adhivasi/janjati of Manipur, the FoH asserted that granting ST status to Kukis in Manipur is not acceptable.
Rejecting Paominlen Haokip's ignorant claim that Kom, Chiru, Koireng, Chothe, Purum, Hiroi Lamgang (Lamkang) belong to the Kuki tribes, the FoH clarified that these are aboriginal tribes of Manipur.
The records of Manipur mention no such thing as 'Kuki Hills'.
Another big mischief Paominlen Haokip wrote in his last paragraph of page 10 where he claimed that Kyang and Chin are synonymous.
Normally, Kukis are Chin in Myanmar but Kyang and Chin are not synonymous, the FoH asserted.
Further Paominlen Haokip's representation claimed several villages of indigenous tribes as Kuki villagers.
This was done with a nefarious intention to claim that these indigenous tribes and their villages belong to the Kuki group, the FoH said.
It also said that most of the documents and records submitted by Kukis are not genuine but fabricated.
The Government of India should not support the impractical demand for Kukiland nor the tripartite talk nor the SoO agreement with Kuki militants, it added.
