Dimapur, July 02 2014:
The Zeliangrong Students' Union Delhi (ZSUD) has expressed its shock and dismay at the decision of United Naga Council (UNC) by pronouncing social boycott and ostracizing former Lok Sabha MP from Manipur Mani Charenamei with the charges of defying UNC's directives and customary practices.
The UNC showed its immaturity and true color of authoritarianism by taking such a biased decision, the ZSUD stated.
The students' body strongly condemned the UNC's Resolution No 5 of The Presidential Council Meeting, held at UNC Office, Tahamzam, on May 28, 2014, and considers the resolution to be baseless, unfounded and politically motivated which serves the decision of only few vested interests.
ZSUD said the decision taken by UNC is not only misleading but it clearly indicates an attempt to assassinate the character and malign the political career of an individual by passing-the-bug and victimising the dissent to their wrongful decision.
ZSUD questions the legitimacy of the UNC on such unfounded and one-sided allegation.
"UNC's allegation against Mani Charenamei of initiating counter movement and disrespect of the Naga issue, thereby questioning the legitimacy of the Alternative Arrangement (AA) is unfounded and untrue.
The prejudice of leaving the big defaulters unharmed and victimising an individual is rather a cowardly attempt and reflects personal vendetta.
Such prejudice is nothing but manifestation of immaturity and failure in leadership discipline which may eventually destruct the founding principles of the organization, whose main agenda is to bring development, peace and unity through social-political emancipation.
It is high time to introspect and stop playing the politics of exclusion.
Rather, UNC should be the guardian of Nagas unity and not otherwise," the Delhi based Zeliangrong students' body stated.
According to ZSUD, such decision may create further misunderstanding, confusion and division amongst the Nagas thereby creating its negative image.
ZSUD strongly uphold the decision and appeal of our esteemed Councils (i.e., Rongmei Naga Council, Manipur, Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur, Zeme Naga Council and Inpui Naga Union, Manipur) of their press statement dated 24th June, 2014.As concerned Nagas, ZSUD requests UNC to re-consider the decision for the greater interest of unity and harmonious co-existence of the Nagas of Manipur.
