Imphal, June 02 2018: Customs Division Imphal arrested two non locals along with 8 gold bars, worth around Rs 41,11,488 from MG Avenue, under City PS, Imphal West.

The arrested non-locals along with the seized gold bars were displayed at the office chamber of the Assistant Commissioner Customs Division Imphal, RK Darendrajit.

Briefing media persons, RK Darendrajit said that acting on specific information about the presence of some gold smugglers in and around Imphal City, Customs Division officials began monitoring the movement of smugglers in the area from last night onward.

Today morning, two suspicious non locals were spotted found moving along with their luggage near MG Avenue and were detained on the spot for checking.

While checking their belongings, the officials found 8 gold bars wrapped in a carbon paper.

The arrested non locals have been identified as Aran Kumar (47) s/o Kanhai Lai of Patna and Rajkumar Sah (42) s/o Ratan Sah of Patna.

The Additional Commissioner continued that further investigation is underway to arrest other individuals (if any) in connection with the case.

He stated that in last few days, Customs division Imphal has managed to arrest a number of gold smugglers along with a huge amount of gold bars.
