Imphal, January 02 2017:
Khongjom Battle Memorial Committee, Manipur today urged the State Government to release the submitted document which evidently proved that Khongjom Day observed every year at Kheba Hill should be on April 25, not on April 23 .
Speaking to mediapersons at Manipur Press Club, Khongjom Battle Memorial Committee, Manipur secretary Chingtam Luwang claimed that Khongjom Day observed on April 23 every year is not the correct date.
Khongjom War was not fought in Kheba Hills.
"Khongjom War was fought at Khongjom Tengol Lampak and there are records which proved that war was fought in that location.
The committee, after minutely discussing the records, had submitted all the relevant documents to the State Governor's Secretariat on September 19, 2012.Copy of the same documents were also submitted to the Chief Minister's Secretariat on July 8, 2016 urging to constitute a review committee and rectify the date and location of the historic Khongjom War," Chingtam Luwang said.
He further maintained that the committee had also submitted a written request to the Chief Minister on October 19, 2016 to discuss the matter.
He said, "Unfortunately, the Chief Minister is yet to response to our request.
This shows that the State Government is committed only to issues that will gain political mileage.
The State Government has no time to discuss the historic events of Manipur and rectify the required misunderstandings" .
Truth should be imparted to the people in order to pass down the historic events to the younger generations and preserve our history.
The committee will the apprise the matter to the Governor again so that necessary steps can be taken up at the earliest, he added.
