First Bamboo Crushing Unit inaugurated, Bamboo & Cane Processing Training concludes

The first Bamboo Crushing Unit in Manipur was inaugurated at Ngairengbam Mamang Ching, Imphal East on October 31, 2024 .
The inaugural function was organised by North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) under the North Eastern Council, Ministry of DoNER, Government of India in association with Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS) .
The function was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Mangsatabam Iboyaima Meitei, Adviser (Horticulture), North Eastern Council Secretariat; MC Omi Ningshen, IRS, MD of NECBDC; Prof Ng Iboyaima Singh, Dean, College of Food Technology; Dr Huidrom Birkumar Singh, CSIR-NEIST, Chief Scientist; Mayanglambam Khelendro Singh, president, AIMS and Dr Atom Sunil Singh, director, AIMS.
According to a release issued by AIMS, this innovative project, "Bamboo Powder as an Integrated Farming of Livestock, Crop, and Fish in North East India" uses bamboo powder as a sustainable feed supplement for livestock, natural fertiliser for crops, and ammonia absorbent for fish ponds.
The project is expected to play a significant role in improving agricultural productivity, reducing cost and promoting healthy farming in the region.
At the event, Iboyaima Meitei said, "The inauguration of the Bamboo Crushing Unit marks an important landmark in the path of agricultural innovation for Northeast India.
By harnessing bamboo and other local resources, we are ushering in an integrated model of farming that can well make a meaningful contribution to the socioeconomic development of our rural communities".
MC Omi Ningshen asserted that the project can generate many opportunities for the local communities and help promote the region as a whole for a more prosperous & sustainable future.
Meanwhile, the 30-days long training programme on "Bamboo and Cane Processing" organised by North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council in association with AIMS concluded yesterday at Manipur University, Canchipur.
The closing function was graced by Mangsatabam Iboyaima Meitei; Prof Gopal Kumar Niroula Chhetry; Dr Huidrom Birkumar Singh; Dr Kh Somorendro, former Director, Institute of Cooperative Management (ICM), Guwahati; N Somorendro Singh, Assistant Mission Director, National Bamboo Mission, Government of Manipur; Pangambam Rajendro, former Head Trainer SPG, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India; H Priyokumar, Manager Training, NECBDC, Guwahati, Assam; N Loyalakpa, Project Director, EBADA/DRVDB, Manipur; Chongtham Sanjoy Singh, Chartered Accountant and MC Omi Ningshen as presidium members.
The training programme was sponsored by North Eastern Council, Ministry of DoNER, Government of India and supported by the Department of Forestry, Manipur University.
