Thoubal, June 01 2014:
Eviction drive along the approach road of Pallel new bridge in Thoubal district was carried out today.
During the eviction, some class rooms of Ideal High School, private kuccha houses and shops, some structures of Police Station situated on the Western side of Old Police Station as well as the fencing and a duty post tower of the newly constructed police station which was not yet inaugurated were also dismantled.
While briefing media persons at the sideline of the eviction, Th Charanjeet Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Kakching said that land compensation and cost of standing properties has been paid to all affected pattadars by the Government.
The approach road of Pallel new bridge would be constructed with a width of 150 ft.
Accordingly, eviction drive to remove the encroached structures were carried out since last October as the construction of the new bridge was completed.
But the eviction drive was halted following an appeal from the concerned structure owners who volunteered to remove the structure themselves, he added.
However, when a team of PWD Engineers went to begin construction of the approach road in February, they found some of the encroached structures still standing.
Therefore, the final eviction drive was carried out today after prior information were given to all the encroachers, said the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
Meanwhile, Yanglet Haokip, owner of the land adjacent to the Old Police Station said that his land was not affected according to the earlier Order issued and he did not receive any compensation from the Government.
But during the eviction process, some portion of his land and standing properties were affected.
However, after an understanding with the DC Thoubal and an assurance for providing compensation, dismantling some part of standing properties was allowed, he said.
He warned that if the authorities concerned fail to provide compensation for the affected land and cost of standing properties, any construction work within his land will be prohibited.
