Education Minister inaugurates school building

A newly constructed building of Singjamei Oinam Thingel Government Primary School was inaugurated today by Education Minister S Rajen Speaking at the inaugural function, Rajen said that enrolment in Government schools declined dramatically during the 15 years of Congress rule.
Even though Oinam Thingel Primary School is one of the oldest schools in Singjamei Assembly segment, it was lying almost defunct for a prolonged period due to the dilapidated school building.
Pointing out that a new building has been constructed and inaugurated, the Education Minister appealed to all concerned to revive the school and ensure that it takes pro-active roles in grooming young students.
The new National Education Policy has incorporated many vocational courses which would ensure self-employment or employment in private sectors after completion of the courses instead of waiting for Government jobs, Rajen said.
Informing that a task force has been constituted to streamline the State's education system, he said that the new National Education Policy can be - implemented in letter and spirit only when there is a broad understanding among MLAs, local bodies and CSOs.
Speaker Y Khemchand who was also present at the function said that the new building of Oinam Thingel Primary School was constructed at the cost of Rs 12 lakh.
As the Education Department has assured that it would pay Rs 10 lakh, the remaining Rs 2 lakh would be accounted to the MLA Local Area Development Fund, Khemchand said.
He then sought the attention of the Education Minister to upgrade the primary school to the level of a UJB school.
He also appealed to all parents to stop sending children to private schools but choose Government schools.
IMC Mayor L Lokeshore was also present at the gathering.
