Imphal, May 31 2019:
The Right of Way (RoW) of Imphal-Moreh highway which forms a key section of the Asian Highway-I would be expanded up to 10 metres till the border town of Moreh.
Notably, due process for expansion of Lilong-Wangjing and Wangjing-Kongkhang sections of the same highway has been almost completed.
While Lilong-Wangjing section is known as package I, Wangjing-Kongkhang section is called package II.
Whereas requisite funds for both the packages would be provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), NHIDCL is the implementing agency.
According to information received from NHIDCL, a DPR has been finalised for expansion of Imphal-Moreh highway from Kongkhang to Moreh as package no III, in addition to the first two packages.
The RoW of Kongkhang-Moreh section would be expanded to 10 metres from the existing seven metres.
ADB has already agreed to provide necessary fund for expansion of the RoW, said the source.
It is the land acquisition part which would be most time consuming.
As such, it is highly unlikely that the RoW expansion work would begin within the current financial year.
It may begin next financial year, informed the source.
Nonetheless, for package no I, necessary land has been handed over to NHIDCL after completion of the land acquisition process.
As such, the road expansion work would begin shortly.
Tender process has been completed for package no II but the land acquisition process is not yet complete.
Notably, a fresh tender was held for Lilong-Wangjing section as the necessary land could not be handed over to the work agency in time.
Apart from expansion of the highway, there would be service lanes on Lilong-Wangjing section.
On the other hand, the State Level Coordinating Committee headed by the Chief Secretary as chairman held a meeting on May 2 9 and reviewed the progress of highway works being implemented by NHIDCL.
The meeting decided to send certain proposals to the Government on pending issues including law and order problems.
Notably, DGP, PWD Chief Engineer, PHED Chief Engineer, Deputy Commissioners and NHIDCL representatives are members of the State Level Coordinating Committee.
