Imphal, April 30 2011:
After Rs one crore was sanction for construction of class rooms for the upgraded New Somtal Government Junior High School under Special Plan Assistance (SPA) and while the same work still remains incomplete, another Rs 47.69 lakhs have been sanctioned under RMSA (Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan) for construction of the same
school building.
A reliable source informed that Rs one crore, which was reduced to Rs 83 lakhs after deducting contingency amounts and VAT etc, was sanctioned for construction of 10 class rooms at the estimated cost of Rs 54.65 lakhs, two staff quarters at the cost of Rs 21.58 lakhs and two toilets at the cost of Rs 3.47 lakhs.
As the compound of the school is a bit small, five class rooms are being constructed in the first phase.
Most of these civil works have been completed by 60 per cent.
All these works are being supervised by the engineering cell of Education Department.
So far, Rs 28 lakhs have been released to contractors.
In the meantime, another Rs 47.79 lakhs have been sanctioned under RMSA for several civil works of the same school.
This amount is meant for construction of four class rooms, one room for Headmaster, one room for science laboratory, one staff room, one computer room and one room for arts and crafts at the cost of Rs 4.60 lakhs each.
In addition, one library room would be constructed at the cost of Rs 6.75 lakhs, one toilet block at Rs one lakh and Rs 50,000 for installation of water facility.
As of now, it has not been confirmed yet whether these works would be entrusted to MDS or the engineering cell of Education Department.
Nevertheless, it is likely that the MDS would handle these works.
Out of Rs 47.69 lakhs sanctioned under RMSA, Rs 19.07 lakhs have been released so far.
But the released amount has not be put in the account of MDS, added the source.
