Imphal, February 28 2017:
A joint meeting was organised by Singjamei Apunba Nupi Lup, Apunba Yaifa Thourang Lup, Singjamei and United People's Front (UPF) Manipur under the aegis of United Committee, Manipur (UCM) and Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) at Singjamei Sougrakpam Leikai today to discuss the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) .
S Ibochou (advisor, Apunba Yaifa Thourang Lup Singjamei), Jitendra Ningombam (general secretary, CCSK), W Second (vice president, UPF) and RK Mangisana (accounts secretary, UCM) took part in the event.
Speaking at the meeting, Jitendra Ningombam said that the Government of India and NSCN (IM) tried to destroy Manipur by inserting the phrase 'without any territorial limits' in the Bangkok Agreement of June 14, 2001."18 precious lives were lost on June 18 as a consequence of the agreement.
NSCN wants to unite all the Nagas without giving any consideration for others.
When the Indian Government rejected their first proposal, they came up with the idea of Greater Nagaland, Southern Nagaland, Supra State, Alternative Arrangement and so on in their quest to unite all the Nagas", he said adding that the Framework Agreement signed between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India on August 3, 2015 is the result of that pursuit.
He pointed out that NSCN (IM) met all the civil society organisations located under its camp Hebron after signing the Framework Agreement and notified them that their long awaited dream would be finally realised.
Jitendra said, "As soon as the news came out, UCM, AMUCO, CCSK and many other organisations organised People's Movement for Common Future Manipur which did subdue their movement somewhat".
According to him, the meeting was organised in order to discuss the possible contents of the Framework Agreement in light of the declaration by the NSCN (IM) that their dream would be finally realised in August and the recent agreement by the political parties of the State to oppose any plans to destroy the territorial integrity of the State by the Government of India.
"As he has frequently failed to follow up on his promises, the assurance made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to the State where he claimed that the Framework Agreement would not, in any way, harm the territorial integrity of Manipur is highly doubtful", he added.
