Bandh affects normal le in different districts; sit-in staged in Thoubal

The 24 hours general strike called by Manipur People's Against Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 (MANPAC), which constitute several CSOs of both hills and valley, affected normal life in Bishnupur district.
Several markets of the district including Kumbi keithel, Moirang keithel, Ningthoukhong keithel, Bishnupur keithel, Oinam keithel and Nambol Keithel wore a deserted looks during the bandh while Government offices, banks and schools also remained closed for the day.
There was no movement of passenger vehicles but some personal vehicles were seen commuting despite restriction from the bandh supporters.
There have been no report of any unwanted incidents and damages during the bandh in the district.
Thoubal: The bandh also affected the normal life at several places of Thoubal including Thoubal bridge, Yairipok, Wangjing Lamding, Ningombam Sabantongba, Okram and Haokha Kiyam as many supporters took out the protest to the street.
Active security measures were taken up by Thoubal police to thwart off any unwanted incident during the bandh.
Meanwhile, two protesters were detained by the police personnel at Thoubal Thongkhong but were released later.
On the other hand, sit-in protests were staged at different places of Thoubal demanding the withdrawal of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 at the earliest today.
The sit-in protests were demonstrated at Thoubal Nongangkhong Mang Lampak, Haokha Mamang community hall, Tekcham and Heirok part II Bazar.
During the protests demonstration, several slogans like "CAB should not be implemented", "Communal politics of BJP is condemnable", were raised.
Jiribam: The 24 hrs bandh has also crippled normal life in Jiribam where many offices, schools, shops and banks remained closed while market area and roads wore a deserted look, passenger vehicles stayed off the road.
Speaking to the media persons, general secy CADA, Jiribam District Committee N Kumari Devi said that public of Jiribam fully endorsed the 24 hrs bandh against Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 and will continue to extend their support in any agitation/movement taken up by the CSOs.
She further said that even now the demographic of the State was severely affected by the influx of migrants (legal/illegal) before the contentious bill is passed.
Vehemently condemning the controversial bill, she also expressed her apprehension about the potential threat to the political rights, economy and identities of the indigenous people of NE India if the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 becomes an act which will pave an easy way for the illegal migrants from other countries in naturalization.
Tengnoupal: Shops, banks, schools, offices including Govt office and markets remained shut at Moreh town in support of the 24 hrs state-wide general strike called against Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 while all kind of vehicles stayed off the road.
However, the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate No 1 and 2 stayed open and business was as usual at Namphalong bazar which saw low attendance.
Moreh police beefed up security measures to prevent unwanted incidents during the general strike.
