State chalks out green agenda for 2020

With the coming of the New Year 2020, the State has chalked out its environment agenda and is targeting to plant about 1 crore trees to increase green cover and rehabilitate forest ecosystem.
During a telephonic interview with The Sangai Express today, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the Government and the Forest Department will be putting more determined efforts in fighting environment degradation.
The Chief Minister's Green Mission will take a larger role in conserving environment in the year 2020 and the State is all set to carry out its environment agenda 2020, said Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The Chief Minister's Green Mission was laun-ched with the aim to en- courage tree plantation and increase the green cover of the State to check environment degradation.
The mission, he said will cover larger areas with more attractive campaigns in 2020.Elaborating the details of the environment agenda, the CM said that tree plantation to be taken up during 2020-21 will cover a total area of about 9,211.94 hectares.
Of the total area, National Afforestation Programme will cover, 2,791 hectares while CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation Fund Manage- ment and Planning Authority) and State Plan will cover 5,596.94 hectares and 824 hectares respectively, he added.
Commenting on the various campaigns, he said that a total of 35,55,040 seedlings/saplings were distributed free of cost to the public for plantation under Van Mahotsav programme 2019-20 .
For Van Mahotsav programme 2020-21, a total of 22,00,000 saplings of local species will be raised for free distribution to public, he added.
