Imphal, December 31 2013 :
Like in the past few years, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) today presented simple gifts to newspersons of both print and electronic media in recognition of their contri-bution towards safeguarding rights of the people of the State.
Speaking at the simple function held at its Keisham-pat Junction head office this afternoon, DESAM president Wangmayum Islauddin conceded that DESAM with the assistance of mediapersons have been launching different form of movement whenever there are incidents of violation of human rights.
Noting that in an insurgency-hit State like Manipur media has been playing a crucial role in not only exposing those involved in abusing rights of the citizens but also help in the crusades of rights campaigners in fighting for justice, he also expressed gratitude for accommodating voice of the people.
Conveying strong resentment against State as well as non-State actors frequently intimidating media houses and disrupting publication of news items, the DESAM president wished that with the arrival of the new year 2014 media persons would serve the people without any fear or inhibition.
