Imphal, December 30 2024: The 13th Prof N Sanajaoba Memorial Lecture 2024 was held at the conference hall of Manipur University's Department today.

Organised by Oja Sanajaoba Memorial Trust (OSMT) as part of the 79th birth anniversary of Oja Sanajaoba, the programme was held under the theme "National Register of Citizens (NRC) : Prospect and challenges in Northeastern States .

Speaking at the function, managing trustee of OSMT S Bubon said that the unrest in Manipur should be closely observed as it is related with the influx of illegal immigrants and the threat it poses on the indigenous communities.

Saying that there is strong pressure on the Government to update NRC in the context of Manipur, he added that people need to study how NRC was implemented with 1951 as the base year and figure out whether the exercise was successful or not.

As part of the programme, a booklet and a book titled "Idea of Manipur Series 1 -Focus Jiribam Files" were also released.

The programme was graced by former Vice Chancellor of Dhanamanjuri University cum OSMT president Prof N Rajmohon, former Dean of Faculty of Law of Guwahati University Prof Romesh Chandra Borpatra Gohain, former Head of Biostatistics Department of RIMS Prof RK Narendra and former Head of Department of Political Science of Manipur University Prof K Ibo as presidium members.
