One sentenced to 7 years simple imprisonment for defiling a minor

Imphal, December 30 2021:
The Special Judge Fast Track Court-I has on Thursday sentenced one 60 year old Huidrom Jilla of Hiyanglam Tera Pishak to undergo simple imprisonment of 7 years for allegedly defiling a mentally retarded minor on March 2016 .
Huidrom Jilla of Hiyanglam Tera Pishak was convicted by the same Court on December 27 under Section 6 of POCSO Act and was produced before the Court for sentence hearing.
During the hearing, the defence counsel submitted that the convict had voluntarily surrendered before the police and had given full cooperation to the prosecution.
On the other hand; the Special PP submitted that exemplary sentences may be given to the convict for assaulting the victim.
The Court on considering the facts and circumstances and after hearing the submission of Special PP and defence counsel sentenced the convict to simple imprisonment of 7 years till September 15, 2023 and imposed a fine of Rs 10 thousand, which is to be paid within a week time to the victim.
In default of payment of the fine, the convict has to undergo imprisonment for another three months.
The Court had also ordered to set off the period which the convict had undergone in judicial custody during the investigation and the trial of the case.
The complaint was lodged by the mother of the victim.
The trail of the case was transferred from Special Court POCSO Thoubal to Special Judge Fast Track Court-1 Manipur by an order from the High Court of Manipur.
