Leprosy awareness programme held

A sparsh leprosy awareness campaign was organised by the State Health Society, National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP), Manipur today at the Court hall of Medical Directorate.
The day has been observed as 'anti-leprosy Day' to commemorate the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi.
Director (In-charge) of Medical Directorate, Dr H Ranjit was the chief guest while Additional Directors Kh Sachikumar and Dr Manikanta were the presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr H Ranjit said that leprosy is curable with proper treatment and he urged all concerned not to harbour fear or shyness in admitting the disease due to fear of stigma.
Pointing out that Govt of India has taken up various programmes for eradication of leprosy in the country, Dr Ranjit said such awareness programmes are being organised to dispel the social stigma and discrimination attached with the disease.
The observance programme also aimed at motivating people for stigma reduction and discrimination and for early self reporting for diagnosis and treatment.
Sparsh leprosy awareness campaign fortnight observation 2017 was also formally launched today with a simple function at the office of CMO, Imphal East, Porompat.
Dr Kh Indra Singh, CMO (In-charge) led the gathering in paying floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.
District Leprosy Officers, IE, L Indira Devi and Dr Lalthari Hmar were the guests of honour.
Similar programme was also held at the conference hall of CMO, Churachandpur with Chairman of ADC, CCpur Langkhanpau Guite as the chief guest.
