Imphal, November 29 2024:
A public meeting of local clubs, organisations and meira paibis from Top Moirangkampu to Takhel Sanjenbam under Imphal East district has appealed to the State Government to deploy Central Forces in vulnerably peripheral regions instead of stationing them in peaceful areas.
Speaking at the meeting held at Ema Nongmairembi Shanglen community hall in Top Mayai Leikai on Friday, Athokpam Dinesh, vice-president of Easter Sporting Association shared that people in peripheral regions continue spend sleepless nights guarding their villages due to fear of unpredictable gun attacks by suspected Kuki militants from the hills upon the villages in the foothills.
Instead of stationing the Central Forces in these vulnerable regions and protecting the people, he questioned the.
reasoning behind attempts to deploy the security personnel in peaceful and densely populated areas of the valley.
He added that if the Central Security Forces show any bias while performing their assigned duties, then people might collectively oppose deployment of these forces regardless of the security situation in their respective areas.
Thus, he urged the Government to exercise logic and ensure deployment of Central Forces only in high-risk areas.
Notably, the meeting resolved to form a joint committee" comprised of five representatives each from every local club and meira paibi organisation from Top Moirangkampu to Kamuching, initiate a democratic protest against deployment of Central Forces and ensure active participation of the clubs and meira paibis in the joint committee concerning any development or social issues in the region.
