Tree plantation programme held at Bal Vidya Mandir Kakching

A mass tree plantation programme under the aegis of the Siksha Vikash Samiti, Manipur was held at Bal Vidya Mandir, Kakching today.
About 100 saplings of different species of plants were planted during the programme.
N Munal Meitei, vice president, Siksha Vikash Samiti, Manipur, N Amuyaima Singh, president, Bal Vidya Mandir Kakching, Y Kirankumari Devi, Principal of the school and other teachers and School Management Committee members took part in the programme.
Speaking at the event, N Munal Meitei said that the tree plantation programme was conducted with the aim to hand over the future generation a clean and healthy earth.
The programme also aimed at encouraging youngsters and children to plant trees and understand impact of climate change, he said.
He also encouraged all to ensure survival of the saplings they planted.
Encouraging the participants he mentioned a quote of Wangari Muttah Maathai, the recipient of 2004, Nobel Peace Prize winner - "Whatever the cause it may be, just dig a pit and plant a tree, then you have shown the seed for peace and hope" .
He then sought support for all forms of plantation activities and called for more public participation.
"If every individual took part in such tree plantation movement, then we will surely have a beautiful planet," he said.
