Ukhrul, June 29 2016:
Although ITI, Ukhrul has shifted to its permanent training institute complex at Kasomtang, Ukhrul in 2008 it has been functioning without a Principal and inadequate staff members, reports Mungchan Zimik.
Protesting the inefficiency, local youth along with Ukhrul Town United Hunphun Phungcham Youth Front (UHPYF) and Hunphun Katamnao Long (HKL) have sealed the ITI complex indefinitely today.
At present, ITI Ukhrul has 19 staff members out of which 3 are regular staff members while remaining are contract employees.
UHPYF president R Kasomwoshi expressed dissatisfaction over the order issued by Joint Director on May 12, 2016 wherein contract staff member Muiwo Thotreiyo was given a Superintendent in-charge post following the retirement of WS Luikhayei.
It may be mentioned that 113 trainees are undergoing training in ITI Ukhrul and will be appearing for examination in July.
UHPYF and HKL have been demanding regular Principal and adequate instructors of all trades for smooth functioning of the institute.
The trainees have also been consistently pressing the department concerned to provide required machinery and essential raw materials.
They have also demanded to release the long pending stipend.
Till date, no study tour for ITI trainees has been conducted even though there is an annual budget for tour programme.
UHPYF urged the authority concerned to personally visit the institute and take stock of the prevailing condition.
