Imphal, June 29 2012: With the stated objective of facilitating the common people purchase 'superfine' quality rice at the Government-fixed price 10 mobile sale points (shops) were opened at different locations today.

the mobile shops were opened at Thangal Bazar, Paona Bazar, Wahengbam leikai parking, Khoyathong Parking, Sagolband Parking, Kanglapat Road near IMC, Khwairamband Keithel, Andro Parking, ISBT Khuman Lampak and Churachandpur Parking Keishampat.

At each of these locations rice were kept for open sale at Rs 9 per kg with three FCS officials assigned to oversee the sale.

It is worth mentioning that Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister M Okendro had recently announced open sale of PDS items specially rice following reports that traders had been selling a 50-kg rice bag at Rs 600 whereas the Government rate for the same quantity is Rs 460 to Rs 470 depending on the distance/transportation charge.
