Order declaring Good Friday working day draws flaks

A number of civil society organisations have come out strongly against the decision of the State Government to declare Good Friday as a full working day.
The State Government had earlier issued an order declaring Good Friday (tomorrow) as full working day for all Government offices and Financial Institutions in the State so as to avoid the anticipated rush for passing bills at the fag end of the financial year 2017-18 .
The order also directed all Heads of Departments/Treasury/Sub-Treasury officers/officials and bank employees to attend office as usual.
However, many sections of the society have come out strongly against the State Government's decision to declare Good Friday as a full working day.
The Kuki Inpi, Kangpokpi has expressed disappointment over the declaration of Good Friday as a full working day for all Government offices and financial institutions by the BJP Government and has warned that the order will not be applied in the district.
Claiming that the State Government's order has become the talk of the day in social media and the order has been drawing huge criticism from the people, it stated that the order is a direct insult and challenge to the Christian community in Manipur.
Seriously considering the Government order, the Kuki Inpi, Kangpokpi asserted that the orders will not apply in Kangpokpi district and informed that all offices within the district shall remain closed tomorrow on account of Good Friday.
The Kuki Inpi, Kangpokpi also urged Kuki Students' Organization, Sadar Hills to monitor its instruction to ensure no untoward incident occurs within the district while cautioning that any institution (s) violating the instruction shall do so at their own risk.
In a similar sentiment, the Naga People's Organization, Senapati has also expressed disappointment over the Government's orders declaring Good Friday as a full working day while directing that the order will not apply in Senapati district as well.
It also said that no institutions, shops, Government offices in Senapati should be opened tomorrow on account of Good Friday and directed the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) to monitor its orders while cautioning that any institutions, business establishments, Government offices violating the directive of NPO shall do so at their own risk.
Zomi Students' Federation, General HQs, Manipur has also condemned the order of the State Government.
Offering support to all other associations standing against the order to declare Good Friday a full working day, it warned it will not tolerate any institutions or Government offices working against the directive of the association.
The Kuki Students' Organisation, Churachandpur has also strongly condemned the decision of the State Government to make Good Friday a full working day.
