WMC demands full-fledged revenue district status for Moirang, reorganization of Jiribam district boundary

The World Meetei Council (WMC) has made an appeal to the State Government to make Moirang a full-fledged revenue district and reorganize Jiribam district boundary to pre-1960 status.
During a press briefing held at Jiri News Network conference hall, Ch Nabakumar Singh, vice chairman, WMC CEC shared the "Moirang Declaration" before the media persons which is based on the ideas and opinions of various CSOs discussed at the 5th plenary session of WMC held at Moirang on December 21 .
As per the declaration, WMC urged the Manipur and Indian Government to find a solution to the 20-month old conflict, abrogate Suspension of Operation (SoO), ensure safe return of IDPs to their original homes, assemble the village volunteers to form a Meetei regiment and task them with guarding the State and international boundary, reform the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms Act, 1960, draft an indigenous business act to protect indigenous businesses and set up Manipur State Population Commission based on NRC 1951, among others.
Endorsing the STDCM's demand for inclusion of the Meetei community in the ST list, WMC further sought support in safeguarding Meetei shrines and other religious sites of importance.
The press briefing was also attended by other WMC members including Konjengbam Ratan, secretary administration; Mutum Gunadhon, secretary information and publicity; Keisam Ronen, vice president, Delhi Unit; Huirem Ongbi Neva Devi, vice president, Women's Front; Salam Ongbi Romi Devi, general secretary, Women's Front and Mutum Ranjit, general secretary, Lakhipur Co-District Committee.
