Poor quality annoys committee

Expressing serious concern over the alleged extreme poor quality of Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex being constructed with the funds from Manipur Development Society, the committee which has been constituted to look after the complex has asked the implementing agency to stop construction with effect from December 27 .
In a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex Development Committee (WKSCDC) general secretary L Inaomacha said that that some parts of gallery of the sports complex had collapsed at a slight touch while the staircase was developing cracks.
Saying that '3rd Class' bricks were found using in the construction of the sports complex, the general secretary said that all the pillars were also brick pillars.
Expressing serious concern over the extremely poor quality of the complex, Inaomacha said that construction of youth hostel and mini stadium, which have already consumed 4 to 15 years, are yet to be completed.
As the contractor and mohori were not ready to talk over the matter with the committee, the committee asked the workers to stop construction works yesterday.
Saying that the committee wants to take up steps for maintaining quality in the construction of the sports complex in consultation with the contractor and Government officials concerned, Inaomacha said that the committee would launch a campaign with supports from the people of Thoubal district if necessary measures are not taken up within 10 days.
He added that weak portions of the sports complex which may give human casualty in future must be totally dismantled and construct anew.
Saying that workers are given free hand in construction works, Inaomacha said that no engineer and constructor had ever supervised them.
Contractor Suresh Jain of SK Constructions never heeded to the request of committee to maintain quality in the construction of the sports complex.
