Indigenous dolls showcasing Manipuri culture at Sangai Fest

Enchanting the crowd in the ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival, a stall which is exclusively displaying only the traditional hand made dolls, is bestowing Manipuri culture and tradition to the visitors.
Dolls which showcase Manipuri culture and tradition such as Thoibi, Bor-Keina, Ras-Lila, Ningol Chakouba, Fishing, women selling vegetable and different ethnic groups are being displayed at the stall.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, the proprietor of Evergreen Goodness Doll, N Sanatombi said that the dolls are made of bamboo, sponges and different clothes.
Sanatombi informed she started the profession of doll making when she was 14 years old as a result of her local people's motivation while they came across a doll made for her sister.
By exploring the demands of Meitei traditional dolls, Sanatombi stated that the dolls are also exported to other States like Rajasthan, Meghalaya and West Bengal.
She said the demand of such dolls is increasing in countries like Myanmar and France.
Showing her credibility in this field, Sanatombi highlighted about an award for best quality product given to her by Integrated Congress Women for entrepreneur on October 10, 2010 .
As her next venture, Sanatombi said she and her team would display such products in the forthcoming North East Mela of Khadi and Village Industry.
By asserting her determination and devotion in her profession, the artisan maintained that she has provided employment opportunities to 10 youths at her work place.
She further noted that one can earn livelihood by promoting their own culture and tradition.
