ATSUM suspends proposed stir

The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has suspended its proposed 24 hours State-wide general strike on Sept 28 following positive response given to its charter of demands from the Govt side .
In a statement, ATSUM said that its representatives had a threadbare discussion with various heads of departments with the Chief Secretary in the chair at the CS' chamber at the invitation of the GOM for a preliminary round of discussion today .
Following the positive response from the Government for prompt initiation of the charter of demands, the proposed 24 hours State-wide general strike on Sept 28 has been temporarily called off .
The meeting which began at 11 am lasted till 2 pm.
In principle, it was agreed that recruitment drive in ADCs, Education (S) and Higher Education will be conducted as and when approval is given by the Cabinet, the statement said .
The culture of utilization of teachers in other work places and proxy teachers being rampant under ADC and Education (S), the Union demanded for creating district cadre recruitment as permanent solution.
Other Charter of demands in education sector includes regularization of adhoc teachers who have been injudiciously left out in the verification process, proper infrastructural facilities for ZEO office, adequate number of MIL teachers in schools and colleges, contract teachers 2006 batch and setting up residential schools in the hills .
B Ed being a requisite criterion for recruitment of teachers, it was agreed that B Ed course be introduced in Govt Colleges as additional course from the next academic session i.e 2018-19 .
On the issue of reservation and recruitment and to solve the problem of backlog vacancies, a proposal was made for constituting an enforcement agency/committee headed by the ST Commission, ATSUM said .
Other charter of demands included notification for special recruitment drive for ST to fill up the backlog vacancies of Assistant Professors in Government Colleges simultaneously with the declaration of the result of 280 posts of Assistant Professors, upgradation of IGNTU-RCM to a full-fledged autonomous Central university, opening of competitive examination centres in the hills, to fill backlogs in JNIMS, backlogs in Tribal Affairs and Hills, TRI, Implementation of tribal sub scheme as per the order of the Govt issued in 2014, re-organization of police jurisdiction and transfer of lands records and imbroglio on reservation in Manipur University, it added.
