Imphal, July 27 2020:
Congress party has appealed to Governor Dr Najma Heptulla to ensure that the provisions of law enshrined in the Constitution of India are followed in letter and spirit by all concerned and restrain BJP from misusing the Constitutional offices in the State for their political ends.
Even though the Congress party had decided to launch Nationwide protests against anti-democratic and anti-constitutional actions perpetuated by the BJP across the country in front of the Raj Bhavans of respective States today, no such protest demonstration was staged at Imphal in view of the complete lockdown and curfew imposed in the State due to COVID-19.Nonetheless, a memorandum signed by CLP leader O Ibobi, CWC Member Gaikhangam and MPCC president M Okendro was submitted to the Governor.
It said that the Speaker's Tribunal acted in the most unconstitutional manner by resorting to arbitrary process of disqualifying MLAs under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution with the goal of winning the election to the Rajya Sabha and to save the minority Government led by BJP in Manipur.
"When the BJP-led Government was reduced to a minority on June 17 after withdrawal of support by four NPP MLAs and their resignation from the Government, resignation of three BJP MLAs, withdrawal of support by one Independent MLA and one Trinamool Congress MLA, Congress party requested you to summon a session of the State Assembly to consider a no confidence motion against the Government.
We are yet to receive your decision on the request to summon a special session of the State Assembly to consider the no confidence motion," it reminded.
It also accused BJP of engaging in horsetrading and misuse of Constitutional bodies and offices in order to topple democratically elected Governments of Congress party in several States.
BJP was successful in craftily toppling Congress Government in Madhya Pradesh in March this year and installed a BJP Government in its place and now BJP is targeting to topple the democratically elected popular Government of Congress party in Rajasthan, it added.
