Shopping complex sinks

Imphal, June 24 2016 : A multi-storeyed shopping complex built anew at Thoubal Wangmataba started sinking towards Thoubal River prompting many people to vacate the complex.

According to information culled from the spot, the shopping complex started sinking a couple of days back and it again sank more acutely this morning.

The shopping complex built by Simplex Company under the supervision of PWD has around 30 shops and it has two storeys.

Although the construction work started in 2013, it opened only three/four months back.

Meanwhile BJP MLA Kh Joykishan remarked that the sinking of the shopping complex has testified how the Congress Government has been utilizing funds sanctioned by the Centre for development of the State.

Speaking to media persons at his Thangmeiband residence today, Joykishan said that everyone is aware about the collapse of Sekmai Dam last year, sweeping away of many bridges by flood water last month and damages done to multi-storeyed Ima Keithels.

The sinking of the shopping complex this morning could have caused many casualties if it was not detected in time.

He asserted that the firm/agency which constructed the shopping complex should be taken to task.

He also questioned the State Government's failure to take up action against people responsible for the bridges swept away by flood water and damages done to Ima Keithels.

It's time to wage a strong civil movement against swindling public funds, destruction of public properties and attempts to commit mass murder.

As for BJP Manipur Pradesh, it is determined to point out all the follies and discrepancies of the State Government to the Centre, Joykishan said.

Although the incumbent Managing Director of MDS has crossed the age of superannuation, the Managing Director has been given neither retirement nor his service period extended nor re-engaged.

Incidentally, the Chief Minister is the Chairman of MDS, added the BJP MLA.
