Imphal, July 23 2014:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the tragic accident of BRTF truck on June 19, 2014 has decided to take up further course of agitation as no response has come forth from the road construction agency.
On June 30 in its memorandum to the BRTF, the JAC had served 15 ultimatums to compensate the victims of the accident.
According to the JAC, the ill fated accident took place on June 19 between Irang and Khongsang NH-37 and seven persons were killed and 16 others injured due to the negligence of the BRTF 83-RCC management.
It alleged that the BRTF truck carrying full loaded sand along with 25 labourers on that fateful day had been used for the task far away from the normal work site.
The labourers including Meingangphang (deceased) had asked the driver to drive slowly but the truck kept accelerating till it fell into the gorge, the JAC stated.
The JAC demands compensation for the deceased persons and those injured, reimbursement against funeral and medical treatment expenses and appointment to the next of kin of the deceased while working as employees and those injured.
In this matter, the last meeting with the BRTF OC-83 RCC was held on July 21 at Noney but the meeting was inconclusive due to the lack of concrete response from the BRTF OC-83 RCC, the JAC alleged.
It will hold joint meeting, the JAC further added, with the victims' families, Zeliangrong frontal organisations and all concerned for taking up agitation in the earliest date in view of poor response of the guilty BRTF.
