Imphal, November 22 2012:
Expressing shock over the inclusion of 'Nagas ancestral territory' of Chandel district in the proposed map of Kuki State by the KSDC, the Chandel Naga Peoples' Organisation has said that it would preserve and defend the Nagas ancestral land and addded that in no way they would compromise.
During a meeting convened by the CNPO today, all frontal organisations of Chandel district decided to defend their land at any cost, said a statement issued by CNPO.
It said that every bit of land in the hills is under the jurisdiction and within the ancestral boundary with well defined demarcation and without khasland.
Since time immemorial, Nagas have been living in their respective land and governed themselves with a set of traditional administrative system protecting their right to land, natural resources, custom, culture etc, it stated.
There was no contest over our historical land ownership by any other communities," asserted the statement.
It added that the Nagas in Chandel district support the demand of Alternative Arrangement for Nagas of Manipur from the Government of India outside the Government of Manipur and the pending Indo-Naga settlement should be expedited to bring solution at the earliest.
