CM inspects Dolaithabi Barrage project site

Imphal, March 22 2015: Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi on Saturday inspected the construction works at the Dolaithabi Barrage Project (DAM) site.

The project is being constructed over the Iril River at the adjoining area of Imphal East and Senapati Districts.

During the inspection, the Chief Minister was accompanied by State Assembly Speaker Lokeshwor; IFCD Minister Ngamthang Haokip; Chief Engineer of the department and representatives of NS Sinha and Company, a firm which is responsible for the construction of the project gate.

The Chief Minister expressed dismay with the pace and the manner in which the construction works are being taken up and instructed the responsible officials to speed up the process.

It may be mentioned that the construction of Dollaithabi Barrage Project was approved by the Planning Commission in June, 1992 at the cost of Rs 18.86 crores.

However, the project could was yet to be completed so far.

Later on, the project went through two revisions by the Planning Commission, one in 2005 and the later in 2009.It is estimated that the project, when completed, will benefit irrigation to land areas of over 7545 hectares.
