Imphal, December 20 2011:
Normal life in the State was thrown out of gear due to the 24 hours general strike called against the murder of Irilbung Water Supply care-taker Ibomcha and his son Yaipu.
Even as the general strike ended peacefully, another general strike has been called by the proscribed KCP-MC from 5 am of December 21 till 5 am of December 25 against the same double-murder.
Normal life was severely affected by the 24 hours general strike called today with inter-State and inter-district buses and other passenger carriers staying off the roads.
Though all commercial establishments and markets remained shut, flight service was not affected.
Even as bandh supporters prohibited movement of people and vehicles at Keirao, Irilbung and Bamonkampu, there was no report of any untoward incident.
Protest demonstrations were also staged at Irilbung and Bamonkampu against the double murder.
Chowkidar Soram Ibomcha and his son Yaipu were abducted in the night of December 7 and they were shot dead by KCP-MTF (Kesho Meitei) on December 16 .
At Thoubal the bandh was complete, said the Kangleipak Women Welfare Association in a statement.
The KWWA said that Thoubal bazar remained closed while shops downed shutters during the bandh period.
Terming the killing of the father-son duo by the KCP-MTF as an act of terrorism, the KWWA in a statement said that they have serious note of the dastardly act and appealed to the killers not to repeat such acts in future.
Meanwhile the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Soram Ibomcha and His Son Soram Yaiphu (Gitchandra) has announced that a public meeting will be held at Irilbung bazar to discuss the ongoing agitation.
The JAC has urged all the organisations and the public to attend the public meeting.
